EXPOSED creates X-ray art on authentic medical imaging film — a material originally made for seeing what normally remains hidden. Unlike paper or canvas, the film has its own physical presence. Deep areas hold dense blacks, lighter areas remain translucent, and ambient light subtly changes the artwork depending on how it is displayed.
This film was engineered to reproduce extremely fine differences between light and dark. In an EXPOSED work, that becomes part of the visual language: deep blacks, luminous greys and details that seem to emerge from inside the material rather than simply sit on its surface.
The film is not fully opaque. Hold an EXPOSED work toward light and the image changes. Place it against a bright surface and different details become visible. Frame it and its surroundings become part of the way the work is experienced. It reacts to light rather than behaving like an ordinary print.
Radiology has moved steadily toward screens and digital archives. The physical film that once made hidden structures visible is becoming an increasingly unusual object in itself. EXPOSED gives that material another purpose: not diagnosis, but observation.
